According to the report, the July 20, 2024, accident occurred when five cars containing scrap metal were left on a sidetrack in the CSX Fredericksburg Yard without the brake system being properly secured. The cars were on a slight grade and began rolling.

  • VRE is adding Saturday service to Washington

Virginia Railway Express has approved adding passenger rail service on Saturdays sometime within the next ten months. VRE spokeswoman Karen Finucan-Clarkson says the final implementation of the new service is being held up by contract negotiations with CSX, which owns the tracks on the Fredericksburg line, and Norfolk Southern Railroad which owns the tracks on the Manassas line.
