Biography
Hello! I'm Hannah Getahun, a journalist passionate about telling the stories of underrepresented communities and the environment. My journalism experience includes my fellowship at CalMatters reporting on issues among college students who are navigating their educational experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, I worked as an intern at EdSource conducting interviews and writing stories about higher education topics such as on-campus housing, basic needs and community college enrollment. During my time at California State University, Long Beach, I was the special projects editor of the Daily Forty-Niner. As editor, I worked on projects about elections, campus history and the LGBTQ+ community. My OUTober issue on CSULB's Queer community received first place recognition at the California College Media Awards. Additionally, I completed a minor in environmental science and policy. My focus was in environmental justice issues that disproportionately affect communities of color, disabled communities, low-income communities and more. I hope to pursue more reporting like this throughout my journalism career. Right now, I am open to freelance work or job opportunities in journalism! If there is anything you would like to send my way, email me at journohannah@gmail.com or message me here! I am currently putting together a portfolio website, but until then, my resume is attached in the featured section of this page! :) Thank you!
