Biography

Instructor, journalist, and author of "Summer of Hate," the book about what happened in #Charlottesville, published by the University of Virginia Press. In my youth, I helped launch and operate both the C-ville and the sadly-departed Hook. Today, I am a reporter based in Charlottesville primarily producing short radio pieces for NPR affiliate [VPM] (https://vpm.org/people/hawes-spencer) and have recently taught journalism classes at VCU and JMU.
