The burned-out vehicles and bodies are all that remain after the attack in which 23 civilians were killed, part of the largest coordinated assault in recent years by an ethnic separatist terrorist group. Local officials said they were killed in a roadside attack after armed men checked passengers' IDs, before starting to shoot them and torch their vehicles.

  • With a polio outbreak confirmed in Gaza, the race to immunise vulnerable children in a war zone begins

The Palestinian Health Ministry says an unvaccinated 10-month-old baby in Deir al-Balah first displayed symptoms of the virus. Tests conducted in Amman, Jordan, confirmed that the infant had the highly infectious virus. More cases are suspected in the war-torn territory. Test results from three children displaying apparent symptoms are currently being processed in Jordan.
