  • BOXING: Rodriguez shines at showcase in Dunmore

By Herb Smith Verified| Scranton Times-Tribune Verified DUNMORE — A focus of Onix Rodriguez’s latest training camp was improving his footwork to throw the left hook. The results of the hard work paid off Saturday. The southpaw from Scranton’s Irish Boxing Club repeatedly strung Cameron Reid with left hooks over the three-round amateur bout to earn a victory on points in front of 650 at War of the Warriors at the Holiday Inn Scranton East. With Rodriguez trying to establish the jab in the first round, Reid slipped in and landed a right to the body.

  • War of Warriors boxing card set for April 12

By Herb Smith Verified| Scranton Times-Tribune Verified For his latest boxing card, Doug Long is bringing back a classic theme. The promoter, who always stresses that his events are much more than just boxing, is next set to host War of the Warriors on April 12 at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Scranton East in Dunmore. Long first used the theme in 1995 after seeing it when current Scranton Irish Boxing Club head trainer Gene Reed competed on a card in South Africa.
