Biography

I cover entertainment for Los Angeles Times, Fortune Magazine online, The Credits and half a dozen other outlets. For Fast Company, Wired.com and New Yorker.com, I have also reported on art and design with pieces about surveillance, illustrated manuscripts from the 14th century, Geek culture, sci fi, architecture, graphic design, comic books and art, including a museum story I co-authored with Pulitzer Prize winner Christopher Knight. After the New York Times ran my surveillance sculpture piece, Wired hired me to contribute to its geek culture website. Roughly included an Peter Jackson interview about "Hobbit" camera technology that earned a 2009 Mirror Award citation in the feature category. Reporting on the arts for the Los Angeles Times, I shared a byline with Pulitzer Prize winner Christopher Knight covering "de-accessioning" of art works. I wrote San Francisco Chronicle's weekly movie column Industry Buzz for six years. For DGA Quarterly, Los Angeles Times and Wired, I've interviewed filmmakers David Fincher, Barry Jenkins, Christopher Nolan, Guillermo del Toro, James Cameron, Steven Soderbergh, Patty Jenkins, Quentin Tarantino, Todd Haynes, Karyn Kusama and Ridley Scott. My TV coverage for New York Times ranges from Henry Rollins to Emmy winners Kathy Griffin and Bryan Cranston. My celebrity profiles have included Reese Witherspoon, John C. Reilly, Renee Zellweger, Jamie Foxx, Natasha Lyonne, John Krasinski, Russell Crowe, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Toby Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Halle Berry, Jeff Bridges, Billy Bob Thornton, Kevin Hart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Shia LaBeouf, Hugh Jackman, Diane Keaton, Delroy Lindo, Bill Hader, Uma Thurman, Elizabeth Banks, Tina Fey, Helena Bonham Carter, Carey Mulligan, Zoe Kravitz, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Denzel Washington, Rachel McAdams, Ray Romano, Steve Carrell, Bob Odenkirk, Benicio del Toro, Guy Pearce, Julianne Moore, Ben Affleck and John Cleese. Before they died I interviewed the late John Ritter, the late Frank Zappa, the late Debbie Reynolds, the late Dick Clark and the late Bill Withers. At The Credits, an Motion Picture Association-affiliated site focused on below-the-line talent, I've conducted Q and A's with production designers, stunt coordinators, cinematographers, visual effects artists, costume designers, writers and directors including more than two dozen Oscar nominees. I've also reported on a wide variety of subjects for Brown University, University of Wisconsin, UCLA, USC, CalArts and Art Center College of Design.
