Ian joined Chef Publishing in October 2022 as its first dedicated drinks editor, and will focus on developing wine, spirits and sommelier-related content. He has an in-depth knowledge of food and drink, and is a passionate advocate for the hospitality industry. Ian is a former neuroscientist and Cabinet Office civil servant. After a successful career in Whitehall, where he held senior roles in foreign affairs, communications, public relations and digital, he decided to fulfil a lifelong ambition and retrain as a chef. Since graduating from one of the UK’s most prestigious culinary schools in 2016, Ian has worked as a chef and home economist, before becoming a restaurateur, wine buyer and educator. In 2018, Ian helped create a small award-winning, multi-million pound restaurant group that placed people and culture at its core. In addition, he served on the board as its chief operating officer. Ian’s experience as a wine buyer and restaurant operator, coupled with a strong understanding of the hospitality and media landscapes, means he’s well-placed to help tell your story with maximum impact and achieve your commercial objectives.
