The GW Hatchet

The GW Hatchet is an independent student newspaper serving The George Washington University community in Washington, D.C. Founded in 1904, it is the second-oldest continuously operating newspaper in the city. Operated by Hatchet Publications, Inc., a nonprofit organization, it aims to inform and educate the university and Foggy Bottom communities. The newspaper publishes a print edition of 2,500 copies every Monday during the academic semesters, along with a special issue for freshman orientation in the summer. It also maintains a digital presence with news, opinions, and multimedia content. The GW Hatchet is recognized for its editorial independence, with content overseen by a student editorial board. It has received numerous awards and consistently ranks among the top college newspapers in the U.S.
