Craig Anderson| Harpswell Anchor Verified The Harpswell Select Board has approved the addition of a referendum question to the upcoming June 10 ballot that would amend the town’s Harbor and Waterfront Ordinance to allow it to classify certain local waters as legacy fishing areas. At its meeting on Thursday, April 10, the Select Board approved the ballot measure unanimously and recommended voters approve it. Town Harbormaster Paul Plummer said the idea to add a designation for legacy fishing came from Harpswell’s Aquaculture Working Group.

Craig Anderson| Harpswell Anchor Verified The Harpswell Select Board has declined a local group’s request to ask voters in June to authorize a privately funded project to renovate a vacant waterfront building at George J. Mitchell Field for use as a nonprofit event space and recreation center. The Select Board voted 2-1 against the request at its meeting on Thursday, April 10. Member David Chipman, who has served as an adviser to the proposed project, cast the only affirmative vote.
