Biography

I practice advocacy journalism --having become a professional journalist in my late 30s after years of searching for my career; along the way working a wide range of jobs, being homeless for a time, and eventually receiving my Bachelors in Journalism at San Diego State University in my early 40s. My journey provides me a different perspective than many journalists. I believe in keeping ones word, seek the truth but do no harm, I also believe that "balanced and fair" reporting doesn't mean just getting "the other side", it means you report the reality, no matter the consequences, it means being willing to listen, be willing to admit when you are wrong, assume nothing, question authority and be relentless in the pursuit of truth. I began as a freelance journalist working as a stringer for the wire services, providing local television stations with a heads up on stories of news value and writing stories for numerous community papers. I was lucky to have been hired to cover city and county government and superior and federal court. I spent 38 years in broadcast news, first as an assignment editor, then producer, then my title was senior producer running a consumer unit and then an investigative team, eventually becoming a managing editor than returning to running an I-Team, my first love I left broadcast and have come full circle just like a good plot line. Once more I am freelancing, doing stories I care about, looking for people who have something important to tell a wider audience. The freedom I enjoy in pursuing subjects I find interesting is something I am most thankful for
