The News Literacy Project

The News Literacy Project (NLP) is a nonprofit organization established in 2008, dedicated to enhancing news literacy education in K-12 schools and the broader community. Its mission is to equip students and the public with the skills needed to distinguish credible information from misinformation, thereby promoting informed civic engagement and supporting democratic values. NLP offers a range of educational resources, including the Checkology® Virtual Classroom, a free e-learning platform for middle and high school students that provides interactive lessons on news literacy. The organization also provides professional development programs and lesson plans for educators, along with public engagement initiatives such as workshops and events aimed at raising media literacy awareness. NLP collaborates with school districts, media organizations, and nonprofits to extend its impact and emphasizes the importance of diverse perspectives and nonpartisan instruction in its programs.
