I’m a NYC-based journalist who has reported from 35 countries and won awards for work in the US, Sri Lanka, Congo, Somalia, Kenya, Haiti and Iran. I’ve covered everything from American election dramas to war-crazed drifters on Mogadishu’s backstreets, weaving together potent human interest tales with trenchant analysis. I’ve been lucky enough to cover some defining moments of the era: the election wins of Barack Obama and Donald Trump, race riots in Ferguson, the terrorist siege of Nairobi’s Westgate shopping mall, Somalia’s civil war, the great Haitian earthquake and atrocities at the end of Sri Lanka’s inter-ethnic conflict. I report for Foreign Policy, Al Jazeera English, Esquire, The Times, Fox News, France 24, CBC, dpa, RTÉ, Deutsche Welle, The Lancet, Middle East Eye and The National: mostly writing, but some photography and broadcast work too. I’m bilingual, English and Spanish, and hold an English degree from Sussex University and a postgraduate diploma in journalism.
