Biography

I am a Manila-based writer with a background in molecular biology, science communication, theater, and film criticism. I have been trained in film criticism programs in Rotterdam, Udine, Yamagata, and Manila, and have served as a jury and selection committee for festivals in Manila, Bristol, San Diego, Dhaka, and Taipei. I am the founder and coordinator of the QCinema Critics Lab, a training ground for emerging Filipino film critics. I am currently the head of short film programming at the QCinema International Film Festival and one of the programmers of the Louis le Prince International Short Film Competition at the Leeds International Film Festival (LIFF). Outside of my work in film, I am part-time faculty at the Ateneo de Manila University and CIIT College of Arts and Technology, where he teaches molecular biology and multimedia arts, respectively. For my contributions to science and the arts, I was selected as one of Attitude Magazine’s 101 LGBTQ Trailblazers Changing the World Today in 2020.
