Biography
Jazzmin Jiwa has reported around Africa, parts of The Middle East, Asia, Europe and North America for over 10 years at the intersections of conflict, migration and human trafficking. Her long and short-form text, audio and video stories have been published by the BBC, TIME, The Guardian, Reuters, Al-Jazeera and others. Her family history of displacement inspired her to create the Stories Of Survival project, an independent multimedia platform where refugees and trauma survivors tell unheard, first person stories. It began on social media where it has over 300,000 followers. She started as a reporter and news editor for newspapers in London before reporting internationally while based in Nairobi and later, New York. She is Hostile Environment and First Aid trained by the International Women’s Media Foundation and participated in the Global Early Childhood Reporting Institute fellowship program at the Dart Center for Trauma Reporting. She has a Master’s from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and is currently doing an investigative fellowship with the Global Migration Project.
