On Monday, 32 students in Professor Danielle Bailey’s crime scene processing course participated in a mock crime scene. Students did not know any details before arriving. “We wanted to make it as realistic as possible, maintain as much of the scene as we could,” said senior Kaitlin Ritch.

Seferino Bautista-Renteria, 36, was arrested after the shooting death of Rawly “Eli” Sanchez, 19, who passed Bautista-Renteria’s business in a truck with two friends on July 4, 2024. Bautista-Renteria shot at the truck with a rifle, killing Sanchez. Sanchez and his friends had made a wrong turn. Bautista-Renteria will be eligible for parole after 30 years.
