Biography

I've spent the last 45 years of my life with a camera, spray gun, or a laptop in my hands. The first half of my life was primarily as an advertising and fine art photographer, but my writing career took off in 1999, when Digital Output magazine did a feature on my automotive fine art images. They needed someone to review digital cameras and imaging products, so I jumped in the pool. Shortly after, I was writing for CNet, Macworld, The Robb Report and a number of other photo trade magazines. A life spent as an audiophile led to a gig at The Absolute Sound for a year, ultimately landing the job I have today as the main content creator at TONEAudio Magazine. 21 years later, TONE has nearly 300,000 people subscribing to its free PDF magazine, and we continue to expand in the social media space and now YouTube. Current new projects include weekly posts on Substack, and a car related site, Heel&Toe Magazine. Free time is spent with my lovely wife, my spunky English Bull Terriers, and my automobiles.

  • Fighting Entropy

By Jeff Dorgay Verified| Substack@ Staying on my mission to lower stress, I’ve decided one of the biggest contributors is entropy. The Oxford dictionary describes it as “A lack of order or predictability; gradual decline into disorder. Sound familiar? I don’t know about you, but when I’m missing my car keys, wallet, stud finder, etc., after about five minutes of searching I start to panic. Once the missing keys app starts spinning in my brain, it wears my battery down faster than Google Maps.

  • The Vera-Fi A40 Power Amplifier - World’s 1st review!

By Jeff Dorgay Verified| TONEAudio Magazine Verified It’s hard to believe that a $2,000 amplifier drives the $149k pair of Clarisis Auditorium Plus ribbon speakers with this level of control, quality, and tonal involvement. Chris has me listening to Tool’s Fear Inoculum album more, and the track “Chocolate Trip Trip” has become a great test track due to its percussive, massive soundstage. Moving the A40 over to the Peak Consult Sinfonias ($68k/pair) proves equally involving.
