‘Pink Out For Destinee’: Jasper school encouraging students to wear pink to support injured classmate

(WBRC) - It has been over a month since 11-year-old Destinee Sides was injured in a UTV accident and her school is asking students to show their support. Maddox Intermediate School is calling on students to “Pink Out For Destinee” Tuesday. “One of our MIS students, Destinee Sides, was in a UTV wreck over the summer and she is still in the hospital recovering,” the school said in a post on social media.

(WBRC) - In what may be just another sign of the times in college football, two conferences take up all but two spots atop the preseason AP Poll. The Southeastern Conference and the Big Ten have eight of the top 10 slots in the rankings. Independent Notre Dame and the ACC’s Florida State are No. 7 and No. 10, respectively. The top five teams of the AP poll are identical to the Coaches Poll released earlier this month, with Georgia being a consensus No. 1.

(WBRC) - While the sidelines will look different in Bryant-Denny Stadium when the college football season kicks off this month, the Crimson Tide will be in familiar territory as a top-five team. In the first Coaches Poll of the season, Alabama came in at No. 5, behind Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon, and Texas. Georgia was an overwhelming pick at No. 1 with 46 first-place votes. Ohio State received seven first-place votes, with Texas and Michigan getting one each.
