Tim Walz (DFL) signed a bill into law in 2023 that requires Minnesota to have carbon-free energy by 2040.   • Minnesota tests roads paved with carbon-injected concrete

Researchers with the Minnesota Department of Transportation, in cooperation with 13 agency partners, are studying how to capture and store carbon dioxide in concrete, a process called sequestration. The result could reduce the carbon footprint of concrete, if successful. Concrete is used to construct roads, bridges, foundations, buildings, walls, wastewater and stormwater systems, sidewalks, and more.
