Swanson, an electrician’s mate first class, has been in the Coast Guard for 19 years. Currently based at Station Cape Disappointment in Ilwaco, Washington, Swanson supports 13 buildings on base, 47-foot motor lifeboats, 29-foot response boats and facilities. “The boats are high demand. They’re older,” Swanson said.
