By Jeremy Shermak| Gateway Journalism Review@ By Jeremy L. ShermakCarrieLynn Reinhard is a communication arts and sciences professor at Dominican University and an adviser to the school’s student newspaper, The Dominican Star. Following the release of The Star’s most recent print edition, Reinhard observed a student on the school’s River Forest, Illinois, campus gleefully showing her friend the front page, pointing out that it was her laptop and her hand in the cover photo for the whole campus to see.
By Jeremy Shermak| Medium@ I have a lot of fears. That by no means makes me unique. Fear is a part of the human element and perhaps our most vital survival instinct. I admittedly have an over-the-top fear of hitting a dog while driving. It may stem from many years ago watching our family dog, Sadie, run beneath one of the 18 wheels of a semi-truck and come out completely unscathed on the other side. I love dogs. I haven't been able to bring myself to get a new dog after losing mine in a bad breakup five years ago.
By Jeremy Shermak| muse.jhu.edu@ I moved to Southern California in August 2019 for a new job teaching at a local university. I wanted to live reasonably close to campus to limit my suffering in the infamous traffic that snarls the region. I had several choices, but I chose Anaheim. Friends and new colleagues questioned my choice, noting that it was “nothing but tourists” as it is home to Disneyland. However, without confessing it, I knew in my heart why I wanted to live here: baseball.
