Biography

I’m a senior at the Reynolds School of Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno. My passion for communications started when I joined Spring Valley High School’s student newspaper, The Grizzly Growler. I transferred to UNR to pursue my interest in public relations in January 2022. Since then, I joined the Nevada Sagebrush and UNR’s PRSSA chapter. Currently, I ensure consistency, standards and quality in our work. In 2023, I assumed the role of president with PRSSA Nevada.

    By Jesse Cabrera| The Nevada Sagebrush Verified The Nevada Esports collegiate Valorant team, the UNR Blue, will be competing in the NCAA’s Mountain West Conference’s grand finals against Boise State University on April 12 at 8 p.m.Nevada Blue currently ranks second in the Mountain West Conference with a record of 5-2. The team has beaten Hawaii, New Mexico, Colorado State, Air Force and UNLV. Additionally, Nevada achieved four out of five victories 2-0.

  • UNR’s student media advisory board elects new editor-in-chief for the Nevada Sagebrush

    By Jessica Cabrera, Jesse Cabrera| Medium@ The University of Nevada, Reno’s student media advisory board elected The Nevada Sagebrush’s news editor, Emerson Drewes, to be the new editor-in-chief of the student-run newspaper on April 9. Drewes, a sophomore majoring in journalism and minoring in communications, has been a staff member with the Sagebrush for one year. She started as a volunteer staff writer for the newspaper in April 2021.

VTubers, short for Virtual YouTubers, are online content creators who use digital anime models of original characters as an alternative to traditional face cameras. According to the Japanese data technology company UserLocal, the number of VTubers online has increased by 1600% since 2018.

The Nevada Sagebrush, the student news publication at the University of Nevada, Reno, was established in 1893 and covers all aspects of campus life.. It was founded in 1893 as The Student Record against the wishes of the Nevada Board of Regents. In 1910, the name was changed to The Sagebrush, and then, in 2004, to The Nevada Sagebrush. The newspaper is printed every Tuesday morning, and employs about 15 UNR students.
