By Jessie Stensland Verified| South Whidbey Record Verified Island County is expending funds generated by a special sales tax to purchase an apartment building in Coupeville and possibly buy property in downtown Oak Harbor for a future apartment complex. The projects are part of the county’s ongoing effort to help support low-income housing projects through a variety of funding sources. In all, projects that received county funds over the last four years could provide more than 250 housing units.
By Jessie Stensland Verified| Whidbey News-Times Verified Island County commissioners adopted a one-year emergency moratorium April 15 on development within unincorporated areas zoned as mixed-use rural areas of more intensive rural development. On Whidbey Island, the mixed-used RAID zones that fall under the moratorium are the commercial areas of Clinton, Ken’s Korner, Bayview, Greenbank, Cornet Bay and Deception Pass. Five areas on Camano Island are also impacted.
