The fire at 29-33 Golden St. was reported at 7:30 p.m. and was out by 8 p.m. It was located in an second-floor unit above two bars. Fire Chief Vernon Skau said one tenant was treated for minor smoke inhalation. He said a number of residents in the building may need to be temporarily relocated. Firefighters rescued a number of cats from the building.

Ned Lamont announced Tuesday that he had approved a $4 million state grant to the town of Stonington to clean up contamination in the vacant half of the William Clark Company Threadmill at 21 Pawcatuck Ave. The cleanup of the 5.2-acre site is part of a plan to reuse the building as a 51-unit apartment building with limited commercial space.
