Biography

Writer/photographer/videographer for Pinstriped Prospects covering the Low-A Tampa Tarpons & Rookie-level FCL Yankees. I shoot and edit all of my photos and video, sometimes on-the-go while I'm at games depending on the play/event. I am half-Cuban and speak, read and write Spanish, which definitely helps contacting and communicating with players. I have an amicable relationship with every player I've covered so far and they all enjoy and appreciate my work. I have more photo and video content available on my website at http://johnbrophyphotography.com/portfolio/ I also have a podcast called The Hot Esquina, a bilingual podcast where Minor and Major League Baseball is discussed. A webpage connected to podcasting platforms is available at https://anchor.fm/the-hot-esquina

  • The Yankees are an organizational disaster

By John Brophy Verified| nyyunderground.com@ The Yankees are getting more and more frustrating to watch for the fan base to watch. With all due respect to the players, playing Jahmai Jones in the leadoff spot on Tuesday was ridiculous, and if we’re honest, J.D. Davis has no business being on this team, never mind have him start at first base and bat fifth in the order. Why can’t they bat Wells in the lead off spot as a lefty bat against the lefty pitcher, and play Rice, another lefty bat, at first base?

  • This Week(end) in the Minor Leagues (7/15-7/21)

By John Brophy Verified| nyyunderground.com@ All of full-season Minor League Baseball had an abridged week with the All-Star Break happening last week, resulting in a 3-game set of games happening over this past weekend. That said, the Dominican Summer League and Florida Complex League each had a regular schedule. The RailRiders went 2-1 in the shortened series at Buffalo (AAA Blue Jays), winning the latter of the two games after a loss in extras on Friday.

  • Live Looks: Fort Myers Mighty Mussels at Tampa Tarpons — Prospects Live

By John Brophy Verified| Prospects Live@ I was able to catch two games of this series, with the second game featuring two of each organization's top starting pitcher prospects. Fort Myers is a lot more loaded than Tampa is with top prospects, and that became apparent as they mostly dominated Tampa in this series, aside from the extremely lopsided 17-9 Tampa win on Thursday night.
