John W. (Miles) Cary is the VP Digital Products for The Nation magazine in New York City. The Nation magazine, founded in 1865, is America’s oldest weekly magazine. The magazine provides critical and independent reporting and opinion on news, politics, and culture. Before coming to The Nation Mr. Cary was the Online Director for Time Out Chicago magazine. TOC is a weekly entertainment publication focusing on the Chicago arts and entertainment scene. He has also worked for the American Bar Association as their Manager for Interactive Products. He is co-founder of Suntimes.com, the web property of the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper, as well as co-founder of the New Media division of the Chicago Sun-Times. Mr. Cary spent 18 years with the Chicago Sun-Times and 14 years in senior new media management at the company. During his 18-year tenure he held positions of Senior Director, Interactive for the Sun-Times News Group, Vice President, New Media for the Chicago Sun-Times Newspaper, Director of New Media for the Chicago Sun-Times Newspaper as well as Chief Photographer & Deputy Director of Photographer for the Chicago Sun-Times Newspaper. He has also been Director of Information Technology for the former Hollinger International while serving as Vice President of New Media for the Chicago Sun-Times Newspaper. Mr. Cary’s positions prior to the Chicago Sun-Times include: Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps; Staff Photographer with United Press International; Staff Photographer for the Arkansas Gazette in Little Rock, Arkansas; Staff Photographer for the Marietta Daily Journal and Neighbor Newspapers in Marietta, Georgia; Picture Editor for the Peoria Journal Star in Peoria, Illinois. Mr. Cary is a 1981 graduate of Southern Illinois University and resides in Chicago and New York.
