It was the spring of 1978, and the Rutledge High School Pioneers had its first track team. Although our school did not have a track, we were allowed to use the track at other schools where the track meets were scheduled. We would stay after school about two hours and train. After the track season started we would have about one meet per week and maybe sometimes two.
