Biography
I'm a freelance writer/editor/photographer born, raised, and residing in the River Valley and southern Ozarks of Arkansas. I'm a lifelong cultural observer, hunter, angler, and naturalist. I did not start writing until I was 40 years old. Prior to that, I made a living by various means -- forklift driver, salesman, pig farm owner and operator, and small business owner. When the 2008 recession wiped me out financially, I decided to go back to college and finish a degree in biology that I had started 20 years prior. I also decided to try my hand at writing, something I never thought I could do and mostly considered a dark art. But I sold a few stories and liked the idea of getting paid to learn about various topics and share that knowledge with readers. So I switched majors and graduated with a degree in journalism, a minor in biology, and a lot of hours in anthropology. The anthropology classes have probably aided my work more than anything else. I also serve as a board member for Conservation Hawks as well as White River Waterkeeper and often work with other environmental/conservation organizations.
