Biography
I love being a journalist because I believe everything must be questioned and investigated. I am currently the sr. associate opinion editor for Sojo[dot]net where I have been working since 2021. I am the co-founder of The Reconstruct interview series, which focuses on interviewing people who have faith in a new future and are working toward repairing the present. My coverage areas are primarily identity, religion, and politics. In all my coverage, I prioritize fairness, accuracy, and journalistic integrity. Along with following Sojourners’ editorial policies and procedures, I also follow the Society of Professional Journalists’ code of ethics. I have written book and movie reviews and reported on a church that became an impromptu shelter for immigrants. In 2023, NPR’s All Things Considered interviewed me about an analysis I wrote criticizing an ad campaign’s effort to rebrand Jesus. While I am primarily focused on opinion journalism, I have also published news clips, and I am especially interested in the genre of narrative journalism. I have experience in management and program building. But I am most passionate about diversifying journalism, investigating stories, and writing.

When I was younger, I was convinced that System of a Down’s “Chop Suey!” was a Christian song because lead vocalist and lyricist Serj Tankian incorporated Jesus’ final declarations into the song.

Has the state of Israel become an idol?
By Josiah Daniels Verified| Sojourners Verified I learned of Rev. Munther Isaac during my first trip to Israel/Palestine in 2012. He was a speaker at the Christ at the Checkpoint, a Christian conference dedicated to advocating for peace and justice in the Holy Land. In the years since, I’ve followed his work and witness for peace and justice in the region. So, when I went to Israel/Palestine last October, I was eager to spend time with the man who delivered a sermon heard around the world just days after Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack.
