Leafing through books at the Penobscot Children’s Library brings these women back to 1975. They were all young mothers at that time, and very good friends. “Taking turns babysitting for the kids and creating activities for them,” recalls Patty Hutchins. At that time, Maine had a “Right to Read” summer book program.
