The driver was heading north on I-5 near Birch Bay Lynden Road around 7:30 a.m. when he left the roadway. His car, a 1998 Mazda Protege, struck a tree, rolled over and came to rest in bushes on the right shoulder, according to a Washington State Patrol report. The driver, Mark Bunch, was pronounced dead on the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt.
