By Juliet Norman| B'nai B'rith Magazine Verified The B’nai B’rith World Center-Jerusalem and Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael (KKL-JNF) will hold on Thursday, April 24, for the 23rd consecutive year, a joint Holocaust commemoration ceremony on Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah). This is the only Yom HaShoah event dedicated annually to commemorating the heroism of Jews who endangered their own lives to rescue fellow Jews during the Holocaust.
By Juliet Norman| B'nai B'rith Magazine Verified Helena Merenholc (1907-1997, Poland) Merenholc was a psychologist who aided Jewish children and orphans in the Warsaw ghetto. In March 1943, she managed to escape from the ghetto with her mother and sister. Under a false identity, Merenholc helped Jews hidden by Żegota (Polish Council for Aid to Jews) by providing them with false documents and finding hiding places for them. After the war, Merenholc stayed in Poland and worked for the Central Committee of Jews as well as the Polish Radio.

This is due to a variety of factors, including the absence of records, the lack of stamps or hallmarks, the lost legacy of folk traditions, which ceased to be handed down to succeeding generations, the intentional destruction of artifacts during pogroms, and finally, what could not be saved during the Holocaust.
