Karen is a writer, fact checker, poetry assistant, and editorial intern at The Nation. She is also a fact checker at Narratively, and the president of Columbia University’s poetry society. She is a fresh graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where she trained in breaking news, local/international news, magazine writing (feature, profile, criticism, personal essay, op-ed), cultural news, investigative journalism, courtroom reporting, as well as video journalism and documentary production. Karen earned honours and also studied journalistic ethics, law, history, business, and marketing. Before Columbia, Karen graduated from King’s College London with First Class Honours. There, she studied English literature, philosophy, politics, classics, history, French, archival studies, creative writing, poetry, anthropology, and post-colonialism. She was a journalist at the newspaper, a prose editor at the journal, a photographer for the fashion society, the vice president, deputy editor, and chief poetry editor of the literary society, the president of the poetry society, and the founding Editor in Chief of the poetry magazine. Besides her work as a journalist, Karen is an experienced poet, fiction writer, street photographer, singer, musical theatre performer, filmmaker, and stylist.
