Biography
Born in Virginia and raised in Alabama, Karie now lives and writes off-grid in the foothills of the Oregon coast range. A high school dropout, she holds a BA in creative writimg from the University of South Alabama and an MFA in creative nonfiction from Oregon State University. Her day job is in special education where she teaches creative writing to adults with cognitive disabilities and is an assistant coach for her local Unified Sports basketball team. She is also the editor-in-chief of Random Sample Review and reads memoir for Split Lip Magazine. In the summer, she teaches wilderness survival to kids. Much of Karie’s writing is influenced by the death of her husband after he was wounded at war then overdosed on prescribed opioids. She is working on a memoir about this experience and is seeking representation.
