    By Karina Cooper Verified| The Northern Advocate Verified Volunteer firefighters have put the heat on the Government with a petition to Parliament calling for the same ACC entitlements as their paid counterparts. Despite the country’s 12,000 volunteers forming the bulk of New Zealand’s firefighting front line, they do not receive ACC cover for chronic illness and mental injury linked to firefighting. The were excluded because they do not receive a taxable payment for their firefighting work.
