Biography

I’ve been a wordsmith for as long as I can remember. Growing up in California, my first grade classmates rendered me their de facto human dictionary. In third grade, The Young Authors Faire surprised me with the blue ribbon for my age group for my fictional piece, The Dragon’s Dentist. In eighth grade, my English teacher encouragingly declared me a writer. Plot twist: I decided to major in music, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Studies from San Jose State University as a vocalist. For 16 years, I juggled various day jobs while continuing to pursue my career as a professional musician and songwriter. When the pandemic halted my rigorous gigging lifestyle, I shifted my wordsmithing back to prose, having pieces published in Dallas Observer and the New York-based music site, The Wild Honey Pie. It was during this time that I realized there was so much I still needed to learn about the journalism industry, and pondered the idea of starting a new career as a writer. I moved to Colorado and became the Director of Artistic and Digital Strategy for The Soundpost Sessions, a listening room concert series for which I developed a monthly newsletter that I’ve written every month for over a year. I recently completed an editorial internship for 5280 Magazine, where I took part in one of the last and most rigorous fact-checking operations in the country, learned from the top writers and editors in the state of Colorado and earned a few bylines along the way. I’m open to work covering music, arts, culture, and food and drink among an array of interesting topics. My experience as a working musician and music industry creative gives me a unique perspective when covering the music scene. Above all else, I love helping people tell their stories in an artful way.
