Biography
Hello! My name is Katarina and I am a recent graduate from the University of Idaho, receiving my Bachelor of Science in Journalism with a minor in Marketing, as well as an Academic Certificate in Promotions and Digital Marketing from the CLASS and CBE in Moscow. I wrote for my campus newspaper, the Argonaut, from September of 2020 to December of 2021 and worked my way from LIFE section reporter to Assistant LIFE Editor to LIFE editor in about 9 months time. Besides the Argonaut, I was also involved with my university's chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, where I served as Vice President, later continuing my involvement as a member. I recently finished my term as the Editor in Chief for Blot, University of Idaho's campus magazine, having formerly held the roles of feature reporter and Assistant Marketing Director. I have also served as the Journalism/Marketing intern for UI's Career Services office, and as a copywriter for UI's advertising competition team in the AAF NSAC annual competition. When I am not in Idaho, I return to my hometown of Homer, Alaska and enjoy halibut fishing, hiking, camping, playing the piano, guitar, and ukulele, and analyzing news articles, films, and television shows. I am an aspiring communications professional, whether that be in digital media marketing, journalism, or professional writing.

By Katarina Hockema, Steve Bunk| Idaho Magazine@ Why Choose Idaho? By Katarina HockemaI could tell the voice was targeting me. It singled me out from a sea of wandering eyes, unsure glances and excited yet nervous body language among the posters, booths, and recruiters at my high school in Homer, Alaska. Polite yet determined, it echoed throughout the gymnasium, eager to be heard over the clamor and chaos of dozens of high school juniors trying to figure out where their futures were taking them.
By Katarina Hockema| Blot Magazine Verified When you think of sustainability, you are likely to think of the environment first. Recycling, donating used items, different farming techniques, and renewable energy are just a few things that come to mind. However, true sustainability, and the way the University of Idaho views it, is so much more. Byron Flynn is a UI affiliate and College of Engineering alumnus involved in multiple initiatives on campus.
By Katarina Hockema| Blot Magazine Verified Picture this: snow is falling in torrents outside, the soft light of your living room is reflecting on the pitch blackness surrounding your windows, and faintly, you can hear winds whistling around your home as the storm churns on outside your walls. Festive lights adorn your furniture, and perhaps you have music playing to bring the mood up and get yourself into the holiday spirit. The only thing missing in this scenario is something to chow down on.
