  • The era of sports and community

By Katie Lopez Verified| KATC-TV (Lafayette, LA) Verified It was a dream for Peter Kirsch, a place for kids in the Crowley community to gather and share their love of sports. "This is where these kids get their first lesson in civic pride, teamwork, accountability, responsibility, and it really joins the community together," Kirsch, director of the Tony Robichaux Sports Complex, said. "They come from different schools, backgrounds, and walks of life. For an hour and half that day or two hours that day, they are teammates, they are one unit.

  • New recommendations lower age for mammograms; local woman talks about early diagnosis

By Katie Lopez Verified, Franka Bruns| KATC-TV (Lafayette, LA) Verified Back in May, the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force recommended that mammograms begin at age 40 and screenings should happen every other year after. According to the Task Force, this could prevent one additional breast cancer death for every 1,000 women. It is a recommendation that was not in place when Brittany Strentz was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 36. She knew the importance of getting screened because her mother was diagnosed at 40.
