By Keegan Kyle Verified| The Cap Times Verified Madison’s top elections official for nearly two decades is out the door about a month after she was placed on paid administrative leave amid a state investigation over uncounted ballots. Maribeth Witzel-Behl resigned as city clerk, the city said Monday in a statement. Witzel-Behl was appointed in 2006 and oversaw more than 60 elections up to the city’s primary elections in February.
By Keegan Kyle Verified| The Cap Times Verified With nearly 90% of precincts reporting unofficial results Tuesday night, Melissa Agard secured a four-year term to continue as Dane County’s top administrator. Agard defeated challenger Stephen Ratzlaff, a DeForest salesman, about five months after winning a more competitive special election for the same job. About 80% of the county’s voters Tuesday had cast ballots for Agard while Ratzlaff gained 20% of the vote. The margin exceeded Agard’s previous 23-point victory in November.
