By Kev Lochun Verified| BBC Sky at Night Verified Mars has two moons, named Phobos and Deimos, which are named after the sons of Ares, the Greek counterpart of the Roman god, Mars. Phobos means 'fear' and Deimos means 'dread'. Mars's moons are very small compared to other moons in the Solar System. Phobos is 14 miles (22 kilometres) wide, while Deimos is 7.5 miles (12 kilometres) wide, according to NASA.
