Dr. Khalilah (Ka-Lie-La) L. Brown-Dean is Professor of Political Science and Associate Provost at Quinnipiac University. She is the award-winning host of the radio show and podcast, Disrupted, for Connecticut Public Radio. With a keen eye toward the practical implications of democratic conflict, Dr. Brown-Dean is a preeminent expert on issues of criminal punishment, mass incarceration, voting rights, and U.S. elections. Her work is featured in numerous outlets such as The New York Times, Politics, Groups, and Identities, MSNBC, The Journal of Race, Ethnicity, and Politics, The National Political Science Review, LA Times, Political Science Quarterly, PS: Political Science and Politics, and The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation. Brown-Dean is author of the book, Identity Politics in the United States, that traces the history and contemporary battles over identity in the US. Her latest project, Protesting Vulnerability: Race and Pandemic Politics, is co-authored with Professor Ray Block Jr and under contract with Cambridge University Press.
