The gift of journalism is diversity. In my career I have had front row seats to the NBA Finals, college bowl and NCAA tournament games. I have also investigated controversy surrounding the death of a college football player, and been right there for two of the most-watched murder trials of the 21st century as The Associated Press’s lead reporter for both the Casey Anthony trial and Trayvon Martin shooting case. It’s that diversity that has helped hone reporting skills that allow me to cover breaking news with detail and care, as well as to produce enterprise pieces with voice and depth. I approach my craft always looking for interesting characters and personalities. It was one of the first lessons ingrained in me when I approached my hometown newspaper’s executive editor for a clerk job at age 15, and later reinforced as a student in the Dow Jones Minority Journalism Workshop, which helped strengthen my passions. Through my work you will find a reporter who’s spent his career always telling stories focused on people rather than just subjects. My awards and accolades in that time I believe speak to my success to excel in fast-paced and competitive environments. My versatility also has lent itself to being called on to offer news commentary on television and radio. In addition I possess the skill set to attract and inform a digital audience via my knowledge of SEO, social media and aggregation.
