Biography
Larry Blumenfeld writes regularly about jazz for The Wall Street Journal. His culture reporting has appeared in The New York Times, Daily Beast, Salon and Village Voice among other publications and websites. He is editor-at-large of Jazziz Magazine. A frequent lecturer and moderator at the National Jazz Museum in Harlem, he hosts and curates the museum’s ongoing “Jazz and Social Justice” series. He has received the Jazz Journalists Association’s Helen Dance-Robert Palmer Award for Writing, a Katrina Media Fellowship from the Open Society Institute and was a Fellow in the National Arts Journalism program at Columbia University. He was the Jeannette K. Watson Distinguished Visiting Professor in the Humanities at Syracuse University in Spring 2019. His “Blu Notes” blog can be found at http://larryblumenfeld.com/. He curates the Wells Fargo Jazz Series for Spoleto Festival USA in Charleston, SC. He is the founding curator of the Deer Isle Jazz Festival in Stonington, Maine. He lives in Brooklyn, NY.
