Laura López González is a health and science writer and editor with 15 years of experience covering health from the Global South and, in particular, Southern Africa. Laura has headed the news desks of more than half of all South Africa’s specialist health reporting news services. Most recently, she spent four years as the deputy editor of the Bhekisisa Centre for Health Journalism and, before that was the print editor at Health-e News. Today, Laura is a freelance science and health writer, splitting her time between South Africa and the United States. Her work appears in international publications, including Al Jazeera, the Guardian and Devex. Her work also regularly appears in local South African publications, such as the Daily Maverick, Mail & Guardian and News24. Laura has a passion for telling a good story with the science to back it and is well known for her ability to translate complicated scientific or medical concepts into broadly accessible language. Among her many focuses are access to medicine, inequality in healthcare and global health policy.
