Biography
Story/fact-teller with a decade of newsroom experience. AP Style nerd/Oxford comma refuter. Pun, punk music & photography lover. Bookworm/fiction enthusiast (after-hours only). I'm proud to serve as the Managing Editor of Foodservice Equipment Reports magazine, where I started in 2021. My journalism career prior to that both began and ended with 22nd Century Media, which folded amid the coronavirus pandemic. With 22CM, I co-led our south-suburban newsroom in Illinois while also serving as the editor of the company's lone out-of-state publication: The Malibu Surfside News. In 2019, 22nd Century Media brought home 16 editorial excellence awards from the National Newspaper Association's Better Newspaper Contest. Under my direction, the Surfside also earned its best NNA performance. The Malibu Surfside News’ coverage of the devastating Woolsey Fire — an around-the-clock effort that involved myself and others — earned second place in the best breaking news story category. Judges called the coverage “well written and engaging” as well as “timely [and] obviously of great community importance.” Further, my feature marking the one-year anniversary of the disappearance of Elaine Park earned third place in the best feature story category. Judges called the story “a lovely and respectful tribute, while the unknowns of the case make the story both a tragedy and a mystery.” Park, who reportedly has not been seen or heard from since January 2017, remains missing.

By Lauren Coughlin Verified| Foodservice Equipment Reports Verified No matter the direction your business is headed, an efficient starting point is the National Restaurant Association Show—at which equipment innovation is a cornerstone. The 2025 event, slated for May 17-20 at McCormick Place in Chicago, is set to include 2,000 exhibitors, roughly a quarter of which will be equipment manufacturers, according to Caitlin Rodgers, senior director of marketing at Informa Connect Foodservice Group.
By Lauren Coughlin Verified| Foodservice Equipment Reports Verified When it comes to being on the same page in a kitchen, paper checklists once reigned supreme. But, as third-party kitchen connectivity providers continue to innovate, operators have the chance to do the same—in some cases, regardless of the age or make of their equipment. Today, a host of tech-savvy solutions can automate, analyze and ease several back-of-house tasks, tackling efficiency hiccups—both in equipment performance and in terms of labor—and putting money back in operators’ pockets.
By Lauren Coughlin Verified| Foodservice Equipment Reports Verified During an uncertain economic and political moment domestically, investing in a larger global footprint may seem like risky business. But, operators told FER, international growth is actually among the best ways to increase both brand awareness and profitability right now. “This is our moment to seize the opportunity and create an enduring impact across borders,” says Antonio Bautista, chief international development officer at Dave & Buster’s.
