By Lijah Sampson Verified| The Mountain Mail Verified The Salida High School girls’ tennis team had a good couple of days playing against Basalt and Colorado Springs Christian School April 14-15 at home, beating Basalt with a 7-0 sweep and CSCS 6-1. Assistant coach Kristi Miller said of the Basalt match, “It was good to play a team we haven’t played before.” Basalt is a newer team and less experienced than Salida, Miller noted, but their players were giving some plays that they weren’t used to with lobs and short balls.

Coach James White said, “They’ve got some really good pitchers and they’re a tough team from top to bottom … I kind of knew we were in for a fight.” Salida didn’t play badly, he said, and had good defense. “They (Summit) just got their runs.”Summit made one run in each inning up until the fifth and sixth, in which they made two, respectively.
