She was previously a South East Asia correspondent with Agence France Presse based in Bangkok and the President of Foreign Correspondent Club of Thailand. She spent seven years in the Canberra Press Gallery reporting on federal politics for the Australian Associated Press newswire and later worked for Guardian Australia in Melbourne. As AAP’s diplomatic and defence correspondent, Martin reported from 15 countries, had a Middle East military embed and accompanied Australian prime ministers on overseas trips to major leadership summits and bilateral visits including to Washington DC. Martin is an award winning Australian reporter and a four-time finalist in the Walkley Awards for journalism excellence.
