Lisa Martin is a freelance journalist based in Copenhagen, Denmark. She was previously a South East Asia correspondent with Agence France Presse based in Bangkok and the President of Foreign Correspondent Club of Thailand. She spent seven years in the Canberra Press Gallery reporting on federal politics for the Australian Associated Press newswire and later worked for Guardian Australia in Melbourne. As AAP’s diplomatic and defence correspondent, Martin reported from 15 countries, had a Middle East military embed and accompanied Australian prime ministers on overseas trips to major leadership summits and bilateral visits including to Washington DC. Martin is an award winning Australian reporter and a four-time finalist in the Walkley Awards for journalism excellence. Her 2018 exclusive expose on Immigration Minister Peter Dutton and an au pair visa scandal resulted in a parliamentary enquiry and an unsuccessful no-confidence motion in federal parliament. Her work was highly commended in the National Press Club of Australia’s Federal Parliamentary Press Gallery Reporter of the Year Award and was a finalist in the Melbourne Press Club’s investigative journalism award category.
