  • Autism Myths & Misconceptions

By Lisa Quinones-Fontanez| Atypical Familia@ I remember the first time I starting questioning if Norrin had autism. We had just come back from our first visit with the developmental pediatrician and I immediately called my mother. “What if it’s autism?” I asked. “Norrin’s not like that,” my mother said. When I asked my husband, Joseph, if he thought Norrin could be autistic, Joseph said that Norrin was “just fine.”And I admit…even I was doubtful.

  • Welcome to the Autism Teen Years. This is 13. The Good, The Bad, The Reality.

By Lisa Quinones-Fontanez| Atypical Familia@ Norrin will be 14 in January. FOURTEEN. I can’t even wrap my mind around that. I started writing about our autism journey in 2010. He was a baby…three and a half years old. Now he’s 13. And if I’m going to be completely honest – the autism teen years, so far, have been a lot. It’s been more than a year since I’ve written anything. I’ve had post ideas and drafts in mind but life got in the way. Sitting at the computer, writing about autism and family and parenting, didn’t feel right.
