  • N.H. democrats postpone launch of write-in campaign for Biden

By Lissandra Villa Huerta| The Boston Globe Verified Democrats in New Hampshire have postponed an upcoming write-in campaign launch on behalf of President Biden in the state because of the shootings next door in Maine. The shootings left at least 18 dead, and the tragedy has also upended the surrounding area with the ongoing manhunt, putting a pause on much of everyday proceedings. “The decision is we’re going to wait because of Lewiston,” New Hampshire state Senator David Watters told the Globe. He said it is now expected early next week.

  • This South Carolina power broker is reshaping Democratic politics

By Lissandra Villa Huerta| The Boston Globe Verified House majority whip Jim Clyburn, the powerful South Carolina Democrat, was in his car on the way to the White House when a call came in from the president of the United States. Joe Biden wanted to let him know that he’d made the decision to endorse South Carolina as the first state on the primary calendar for 2024, a major coup for Clyburn’s home state. The topic was unusual, but the call was not, Clyburn acknowledged in a recent interview. “It’s not out of the norm for him to call,” Clyburn said.

NOTUS

NOTUS is a new publication from The Allbritton Journalism Institute. We're nonprofit. We're nonpartisan. And while others will tell you what's happening or what you should think about it, we're focused on bigger questions: Why? Why is Washington the way it is? And what drives the people who make it so? We cover government, politics, and campaigns with the fresh eyes of newcomers and the expertise of veterans. And we call it like we see it, no matter whose narrative it fits or how many clicks it will get.
