Chlorpromazine was advertised “for prompt control of senile agitation” (1). The basis for this claim was case series, newspaper articles featuring physicians extolling chlorpromazine’s virtues for patients in nursing homes (2), and medical pamphlets promoted by the pharmaceutical company Smith, Kline and French Laboratories (1).
