Biography
Award-winning travel writer Lori Rackl spent more than two decades on staff at daily newspapers in Chicago. During her 11 years at the Chicago Sun-Times, the University of Illinois alum wrote a weekly travel feature and edited the Sunday travel section before becoming the TV critic. The Chicago Tribune hired her in 2016 as travel editor, where she also wrote travel features in addition to coordinating travel coverage for the Sunday section and expanding the Tribune’s online travel presence. She left that job in early 2020. Rackl moved to Santa Cruz, California, and took advantage of the location to pursue her passion for hiking and biking. After a couple of years in Houston, Texas, she's back in the Golden State, living in Sonoma County. A lifelong traveler, Rackl has been to more than 70 countries and all seven continents. She loves the outdoors and especially enjoys writing stories about cycling, hiking, kayaking — just about anything on the adventure spectrum. She's also partial to cruising, luxury and culinary stories.
